Situation:

It lies in the western part of lacomarca of Aviles, on land belonging to the council of Castrillón, in the parish (civil) of Santiago del Monte and near the mouth of the Rio Nalón. Situated 47 km from the capital of the Principality, Oviedo, 40 km and 13 km from Gijon and Aviles are managed by the public entity Spanish Aiports and Air Navigation (AENA).

It is the northernmost of the Spanish airports, and their geographic coordinates 43 º 23.8 ' north latitude and 6 º 2.1' west longitude. Their International Air Transport Association (IATA) code is "OVD" and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) code is "LEAS''. Prevailing winds are from the northeast and northwest in winter and summer in the southeast and southwest. The dense fog that sometimes forms on the near by terrain and make it an airport with some difficulty but also beautiful, particularly the approach to runway 11 either visual or VOR DME threshold which is about 200m of the cliff with a beautiful beach below.

Ground Access :

The airport is accessible by the Highway of the Cantabric Sea (A-8) and the national roard N-632. It taxi, car rental offices and bus stop where the company ALSA connects the airport with the main cities in the Principality, Oviedo (Direct), Gijon and Aviles (Direct), there are also stops in Salinas and Piedras Blancas in the same council of Castrillón. History:

Open to the public on June 11, 1968, replacing the Morgal airport, closed for technical reasons. Accessibility:
